The woman accused of a terrifying axe attack in a 7-Eleven was a man named Karl until a sex change operation two years ago.
Evie Amati travelled to Thailand in January 2015 for the five-hour procedure after more than two years of identifying as a transgender woman.
The 24-year-old will face court on Thursday charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm on the second anniversary of the January 12 operation.
She was accompanied on the trip by her girlfriend, Tara Maree, who she was dating for just over a year before the operation, and visited by her sister and mother afterwards.
‘This is going to be the toughest five hours. Please, send all your love to my Evie for when she wakes up,’ Ms Maree wrote on Facebook, tagging Amati.
Six days later Amati was pictured lying in her hospital bed sporting a wide smile and bright red hair, and Amati the next day updated her profile picture with a similar shot.
‘Six days stuck in a hospital bed and still looking fabulous. I’m not good at this whole celibacy thing,’ Ms Maree wrote.
The overjoyed girlfriend later posted a series of pictures of Amati, her mother, sister Chiara and an unidentified man, along with herself, playing in the ocean.
‘This journey has been tough and has tested all our strength but today we were able to relax, kick back and enjoy life outside the hotel. These guys are family now,’ she wrote.
