Dozens of thrill-seekers have been left trapped at the top of a rollercoaster at Movie World theme park on the Gold Coast after the ride suffered a ‘mechanical issue’.
Emergency crews have been rescuing passengers from the Arkham Asylum rollercoaster, but about a dozen of them still remain trapped.
The incident comes less than three months after the Dreamworld Thunder River Rapids ride tragedy killed four patrons in October.
The incident was understood to have been caused by a mechanical issue with the ride’s chain.
About 20 people were initially stuck and a telescopic ladder platform has been brought in to get them down.
Eight people have been removed from the ride and are being assessed.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said they are no reports of any injuries.
Firefighters were called to the Oxfenford theme park just before midday, after being told they may have to stage a vertical rescue.
