Mexico Struck By Massive Magnitude 8 Earthquake, Tsunami Warning Issued

A massive 8.0 earthquake was reported to have struck 60 miles off the coast of Mexico, according to the US geological survey.

Fears of a possible tsunami have also been reported, according to NBC.

The earthquake was felt throughout Mexico, shaking buildings in the country’s capital, and reports indicate that the tremor reached as a far as Austin, Texas.

People in Mexico City ran out into the streets after the quake struck, a Reuters witness said.

Its epicenter was 76 miles southwest of the town of Pijijiapan, at a depth of 33 km (21 miles).

According to Google Maps, Austin is over 1,380 miles away from Pijijiapan.

Widespread, hazardous tsunami waves were possible, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
