Empty Flights Concern Australian Passengers

A photo of an almost empty flight from Australia to Bali has sparked debate online.

The photo of the Batik Air flight from Perth to Denpasar in January was posted to Facebook by passengers Bill and Sue Duhig.

The flight had the capacity to hold 181 passengers but only 31 were on board, according to the post.

The couple said they were surprised to see the flight so empty.

‘The staff told us that the morning flight is always full.’

Commenters were quick to point out their shock that the flight would even take off with so few passengers.

‘Wow that’s so sad – wonder what their air fares are like,’ one commenter said.

‘It’s an awesome airline. Have known people who have flown with them and state better than the other cheap carriers,’ a woman said.

Another commenter said she couldn’t ‘believe the flight still left’.

Some people said they had a similar experience flying with other airlines.

‘We had a similar flight on … [a] Jetstar plane we left about 6.30pm only 50 of us onboard. It was great,’ one person said.

Airlines often surge their prices when customers purchase tickets for flights just before they are due to depart.
